Harley Raffle
Mike Patch came to talk to us about options for him cooking the meal. Asked that we come up with a “dream” meal and a “practical” meal- he would provide us with a price. Said we should be using the services available to us such as the culinary arts programs, Price Chopper/Hanafords and Costco for food/paper product donations. Said his price would depend on how much we want to help with clean up or if he would have to hire help. He is donating his time to help us out. He suggested we rotate out help at 5 people per time block. The VFW Auxiliary provided options for us as well- Ham/Turkey with potatoes, vegetables, tossed salad, rolls and desert $14/plate, Italian Buffet- lasagna, chicken alfredo, spaghetti, tossed salad, garlic bread & desert $15/plate. We will get prices from Mike and discuss at the next meeting. Marge and Don have been in contact with both Green Mountain and Wilkins for a price on this year’s motorcycle (2013 Superglide Custom). Phil motioned and Kevin 2nd- We will purchase from Green Mountain unless Wilkins provides a price by 6/6. Discussion on Nomad as a band option this year, play list was passed out and discussed. It was tabled until next meeting- hoping someone can hear them. We are still looking for Raffle Items.

December 2012 Meeting Minutes

December meeting was in Hyde Park at the VFW,

We had 12 members present with 8 reg, and 4 board. Pledge of allegiance was said, and Treasurer and secretary reports were read and accepted.

NEW BUSINESS– we are looking into doing the Kingdom Thunder Run at Burke Mtn. this year. The Cedarwood Resort has closed, and we had out grown it anyway. We had talked to Jay Peak about hosting it, but they have 3 weddings scheduled for that weekend. They suggested Burke Mtn, as they are the owners of it too. We will go to Burke and meet with the crew who run it, and see if it is possible to host it there. We will also be in charge of getting all the info out concerning the run, and be the group in charge of the fund raising done on this run for IROC,

WEB SITE–For $123.32, UMV can have our own server. Gabrielle motioned, Kevin seconded, and we voted to purchase our own server. This will make it easier and faster for UMV business to be conducted on line. We seem to have been fighting it along the way, but we are finally coming into the 21st century! This is what we re trying to do is bring everything together to make not only Kingdom Thunder, but our toy run, and any other upcoming events flow easier.

Back to Kingdom Thunder, we need to have Phil White Transfer the Kingdom Thunder domain to us to keep track of everything Kingdom Thunder. We hope nothing goes wrong at IROC and hope their fundraising continues to grow and they can keep afloat, but if they can’t, we do not want the Kingdom Thunder name being gone too. Gabrielle will e-mail all the area Harley dealers and see if they will post our event on their web sites. We have 112-115 contacts from past years attendance, so we have a good start on a mailing list of past attendees. Monte will take our info, and get it into New York State papers, —

Patti and Gabrielle have started a G-Mail site for the newsletters and any info coming out of the group. Gabrielle did a new welcome letter for new members explaining what UMV is all about, and why it is important to be a member.

HARLEY RAFFLE– There was some discussion as to what should the top eight prizes after the 1, Harley, and 2, 250.00, 3-10 be, We decided on leather vests again, and Ted from Teds Flying Hogs said he will exchange them for the size you need, of the same brand and cost, for free. We went over the meal 1 last time to make sure everybody was on the same page, and the amount of food we needed to order, so that is taken care of. We agree with the VFW, that after 8:00 pm, no one under 21 yrs. old will be allowed to come in for the dance The VFW has a new web site; it is WWW.7779@yahoo.com. Last, but not least, we will be raffling off a teak miniature replica of a Harley motorcycle. Phil motioned, Kevin seconded to purchase it, and we voted to.

SCHOLARSHIPS– Margie will be mailing the applications, to the area schools in the next couple days, and we should get them back by the first of April, so we can read them in May, and give them out by graduation.

TOY RUN– Design requests were sent to schools art classes, and they were told the students can do this on their own or as extra credit, whatever the teachers saw fit to do. The winning design gets a check for $100.00, plus it gets put on our toy run shirts.

SAVE THE DATE: Teds Flying Hogs Calcutta is April 23, 2013, and it is going to be held at the Canadian Club in Barre Vt. Tickets are $100.00 a piece and it gets you dinner for two, dance for two, and a chance to win a share of $5000.00. It is to benefit the Cross roads Rally, which in turn benefits the Make-A-Wish Foundation, So everyone that can make it, Should!

Motion to adjourn at 8:59

November 2012 Meeting Minutes

THE NEXT MEETING IS DECEMBER 5, 2012 AT V.F.W. HYDE PARK
HOPE TO SEE A FEW NEW FACES THERE

November meeting was held at the Orleans Legion, with 12 members present. The meeting began at 7:15 there were 8 reg, and 4 board members, no guests.

Pledge was recited, and secretary and treasury reports were read and accepted.

OLD BUSINESS: We own our bike! We paid off Green Mtn.H-D and picked it up, its at Donnys house.

Springfield Shiners’ trip was great fun, and very informative too. It is incredible what they can do there. The staff was very accommodating, and we were treated very nice by everybody there, they really could use cash donations in lieu of toys. We all felt it was worth our time to make this trip and we have a better understanding of what these places can do for the kids.

Phil White joined our meeting tonight with info on Kingdom Thunder. We may have to move the event to a new location, as Annie may not be there next year. Phil will talk with Steve Wright and Rob Hodgkins about seeing if Jay Peak would be interested in hosting us. We need to start pushing K/T for 2013 now, and contact some of the area H-D dealers to get more interest up. We also have to push our web site better and keep it updated as to what’s going on. Jason will check with RCT to see if they would be able to transport people if we need to use IROC’s grounds for it.

TOY RUN: GMHD wants to be the starting point for us this next year, takes over the Spanked Puppy group. They will do a pancake breakfast for the early riders and get the run going! We approve of this switch, nice to have a dealer get involved with us! We have E-mailed info to schools on the t-shirt design contest and the $100.00 prize for the best design.

TURKEY DONATIONS: We donated 10 turkeys to WLVB’s turkey drive. They said we were welcome to come on air and discuss our Harley Raffle, and anything else we have planned, Donny and Holly will go and discuss raffle and scholarship with Roland Lajoy.

HARLEY RAFFLE: The food is being ordered and taken care of, we will order 20 dozen biscuits from Cinta, plus we are doing potatoes, chicken, cranberry sauce and coleslaw, plus desert. Jason Heath has our deposit so the band is assured!

Anyone that doesn’t have a ticket, but wants to come, the prices for the night will be as such: $10.00 per person, Dance only, $25.00 per person meal and dance.

SCHOLARSHIPS: We will give out 6 scholarships at $500.00 each again this year. Jason made the motion; Mike seconded it, the vote passed.

We received a thank you from Bobby Starr for our donation to his campaign, With Bobby winning, and John Rogers with both being pro choice supporters of helmet choice, this brings us to 3 with Joe from Caledonia County that we can count on. It’s not a lot but it’s a start.

We need to set a date to visit the legislature in January to share with them all we do for the area, not just push the helmet choice thing that will come later. If you are willing to speak to your legislator about helmet choice, please contact us, we will be putting together a date to go to Montpelier and meet with our Senators. Please get involved! More numbers carry more weight!

Also we will do our annual Storm the State House in May. Adjourned at 8:47 pm

UMV – Dedicated to Motorcycle Safety, Education, Pro Motorcycle Legislation & Individual Freedom

Hey, listen up…

We here at UMV are striving to make this Organization a strong voice for motorcyclists’ rights. It takes an unbelievable amount of time to go to these events and push our cause. Alot of times it seems like we are not getting anything done. Yet through the fog of politics, every now and then we see a light of hope, only to be dashed because of lack of support behind us.

We have over 100 members and yet when we show up at Montpelier, or different forums to express ourselves, it is always the same 8-10 people.

While we love riding and doing our fundraisers (Harley Raffle and shirt sales, etc.) the core group is getting exhausted. This is everyone’s Organization. Please try to put forward an effort to help out on some of our events. We don’t need everybody at every event, but we could use some more help.

This will only make UMV stronger. Our main events are the Harley Raffle in January and the Toy Run in August.

But throughout the year we do show up at various rallies, pushing our message. We know people come to these because we always sign up new members.

Please come to a meeting or volunteer at a run. We really can use your help and you will be an asset to our Organization.

Our meetings are at the VFW in Hyde Park off Route 15, and at the American Legion in Orleans. All UMV members are welcome to attend. Check our website or your newsletter for dates and site info!

Thank you,
The UMV Staff
