I Want You To Post Here

Norman Rockwell Freedom of SpeechThis is your Website. United Motorcyclists of Vermont is dedicated to motorcycle safety, education, awareness, pro-motorcyclist legislation and individual freedom. Those are proud and worthy things to be dedicated to. And, since democracy* is not a spectator sport, we should all be contributing to this site, this organization, this country and all motorcyclists – all citizens.

If you have anything to say, anything to share or question or comment on – do it here. Share it with other motorcyclists and be an active part of your organization.

UMV is a non-profit, 501 (c)(4) organization. We are charitable, educational and political. We’re fighting, well trying to fight, for your right to ride and all of your civil rights and freedoms. We can’t do it without you…

*The United States is not a democracy, the founding fathers considered democracy nothing more than mob rule. We are a democratically elected republic. We are all represented in our government by elected representatives. Our rights as bikers, even though we are a minority of drivers and of the general population, are protected and equal. It is only through our actions that we will keep our rights.

We’re working on getting our membership online. If you want to take an active part in updating and adding to our online presence, contact us and we’ll set you right up.

Remember, making suggestions to an all-volunteer organization without offering to do the work is just complaining.

November 2015 Message From The President

riding in November in VermontHey everyone, it’s Holly. Did you have a great summer? I know I did! Joe and I didn’t take any out-of-state rides this year, but we were on our bikes almost all the time! we’re lucky enough to be able to commute by bike and man, that is the way to get to your job, it’s the best part of the day, besides going home 😀 I remember some rain in June, but after that, I think I rode to work like 90% of the time. Our season is so short, it makes us appreciate it more.

My biggest concern while on the bike, definitely, is distracted driving. Despite the “no cell phone or texting while driving” law, it is pretty commonplace! and really gets me livid when I see a vehicle drifting over the center line and I see the driver’s head is down, obviously looking at a device. Or driving with the phone plugged to their head. I don’t know how to get to people to stop it, all we can do is be super-vigilant at every vehicle approaching us. I have to say though, while commuting through Stowe Village at a slow pace in traffic, I do take the opportunity to bark at people, “HEY! get off the phone and DRIVE!” while cruising by their open window.

Being on the bikes yesterday to deliver the donation turkeys was pretty awesome, for us to ride comfortably in mid-to-late November is a rare treat isn’t it.

We wish everyone a great holiday with family and friends, and hopefully being able to be thankful for wanting what you have 🙂

Best wishes, Holly

Watch Out for Red Light Runners!

It’s almost time to get the bikes out! (almost, right, let’s hope so!) Here is a compilation vid of red light runners. It is scary to think of us out there, against drivers like this! All we can do is LOOK and KEEP AWARE when we get the green light, because not everyone else is paying attention.

Keep this vid in mind when you are at a traffic light and think it’s safe to go!
