United Motorcyclist of Vermont – dedicated to safety, education, pro-motorcyclists legislation and individual freedom.
We recently reorganized. UMV is a political, educational and social organization. We filed the paperwork to become a non-profit and needed to rewrite our bylaws, charter and mission.
UMV Is A 501 (c) (4)
501(c)(4) organizations are generally civic leagues and other corporations operated exclusively for the promotion of social welfare, or local associations of employees with membership limited to a designated company or people in a particular municipality or neighborhood, and with net earnings devoted exclusively to charitable, educational, or recreational purposes. Unlike 501(c)(3) organizations, 501(c) (4) organizations may lobby for legislation; they may also participate in political campaigns and elections, as long as campaigning is not the organization’s primary purpose.
So we can still say “Helmet Laws $uck Money from Vermont!” Because it’s the truth, it’s not our sole issue and we’re not paying anyone else to say it.
