April Meeting Minutes

The April UMV meeting started at 7:15 and was held at the VFW in Hyde Park. There were 3 board members and 10 members present.

The treasurers report was read and accepted. There was a brief discussion/recap of the March meeting since there was no secretary report.

Scholarships:

Donnie has received some scholarship applications- we plan to meet some night in May at Donnies as we have in the past. The date will be picked at the May meeting. We plan on getting a lasagna from Costco’s to try for dinner since we are considering that as an option for the Harley Raffle.

Toy Run:

Hartigans sent a letter asking if we were in need of their services this year- offering discount for multiple units. Donnie will call to see what price they give him as a “regular” person before we call them as UMV. Kevin said he would check with some people he knows about prices.

Mike will ask the food vendor to donate a portion of his food sales to the Shriners.

Harley Raffle:

There was more discussion on food options and possible location change so we could sell more tickets and get a bigger bike. Decided it might be something to look into for another year. Would stick to what we know this year, try to make a decision on the food in the next couple of months. The VFW auxillary was also mentioned as an option. Kevin will talk to his sister about possbile options/cost. Don and Marje will talk to Green Mountain and Wilkins when they return about prices/options for this the 2014 bike. Still looking for raffle item- set limit of $100-$150. Thought about a $100 gift cert to who ever we purchase the bike from if we don’t find anything else.

Kingdom Thunder:

Lots of discussion as to whether we have the man power/interest/committment to continue with the event. It was decided that we would push the event as a “lite” Kingdom thunder for the next 2 years to keep the interest and the weekend. It would be billed more toward the 1 day event, with a shorter ride (done at 2pm instead of 4pm) with a BBQ and local band until 7pm. Once the hotels were up, push for the 3 day event more like what was at Cedarwood. This would keep the cost down and hopefully allow for more of a donation.

We are going to ask for a meeting with Burke next week to discuss loose ends:

1. who responsible for what- set up, clean up of BBQ, garbage removal
2. Jay still on board to provide snow fence, set up/take down tent and stage
3. Still ok for camping even if billed more as 1 day event
4. local band suggestions

Person at the chronicle willing to sell ads and sponsorships for a small %. Decided that was worth the cost since none of us have the time to do what needs to be done.

Gabrielle will check with memphremagog press about getting posters for next week so we can have them at Ted’s rally.

The Next meeting will be May 1 at Orleans Legion starting at 7pm. Hope to see you there.
